Fellowship with God

This is the recording of the sermon I preached on January 1 at Great Plains Gathering. The sermon begins at the 2:00 mark, the first bit is the Bible reading.

The text for the sermon: 1 John 1:1-7

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Quizlet Cards for PCA Ordination

I’ve compiled all of the Quizlet decks I’ve been using over the last ~4 years (through seminary and internship) to prepare for Ordination in the Presbyterian Church in America. This information has come from a combination of sources including TE Brian Chapell’s guide for Ordination, TE Shane Waldron’s guide for Ordination in the Rocky Mountain Presbytery, On Being Presbyterian by TE Sean Lucas, various guides used by TE Alfred Poirier, and feedback from TE’s in my Licensure examination. Feel free to share with anyone you think might need them.

Some of these are rushed so you’ll very likely find spelling and syntax errors. In order to edit them, select the “Copy” option in the upper left-hand corner on the Quizlet page and Quizlet will copy everything over to a new deck that is editable. You will need a Quizlet account to edit these or save them to your decks. I used these on my tablet but you can also use the flash cards on your phone or desktop.

Happy studying and may God bless you!

December/January Family Update

Even though it’s January (of 2017! Wahoo!), I still wanted to be sure and cross-post our December update here since the prayer requests are all still in play. Want to get these delivered to your inbox? Subscribe here.

Happy New Year!

Since we last wrote, a lot has been going on. Anthony preached his first 3 sermons at Great Plains Gathering, he turned in his final written PCA Ordination examinations (only one more step until Ordination!), he also continues to teach on Monday nights and that kicks back up again in January, GPG held another successful Family Night and a special Christmas party, Tamasin turned 5, Remley opened an Etsy shop, and God brought us many opportunities for discipleship, fellowship, and evangelism.

Oh! We also had The Great Polar Vortex of 2016 come through. It left us with almost two feet of snow and a weekend of frigid temperatures but we had no accidents and had a warm home.

We thank God for all of his good gifts.

We wanted to share a few pictures from the last months below. Under that are our December/January prayer requests.

This month, please pray for:

  • Anthony’s last month of Ordination preparation. Only one month until Anthony goes before the Rocky Mountain Presbytery for his final oral examination in order to be Ordained int ministry in the Presbyterian Church in America! (YAY!) All of us are excited to see this step in the process completed but thankful for all that God has taught us in the journey. Please pray that God would sustain Anthony and the rest of our family over the next month with patience, joy, and diligence. Also, please pray that this final examination would go well and God would be glorified.
  • Anthony’s preaching. Anthony preaches again at GPG in February. Please pray that God will help him prepare well for preaching, that he will teach the people at GPG to the best of his ability, and that God’s message would be heard.
  • Prayer and financial support of planting. We’re excited to announce that we are 54% funded for the next two years. That is more than the last time we wrote! We are thankful for all who have donated to support this ministry and have been moved by how God brings a little bit more each month. We now just need 16 people to give $100 a month to meet our fundraising goal. Please pray for people to partner with us in prayer and funding.

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
  Romans 12:11-12
