Tam has been in the stage where everything is cooler when it’s taken out of its container and thrown into a pile, but lately she’s been doing it more. It’s like she’s channeled a new super power: Destruction. Hence the new name we’ve given her, Captain Destruct-O.
This is what a common hour of play looks like for her:
1. Crawl to bookshelf.
2. Pull all things off of all shelves within reach.
3. Play in pile of stuff for about a minute.
4. Go to set of drawers in entertainment center.
5. Repeat steps 2-3.
7. Get behind couch to where mom stores things that don’t fit anywhere else. (We all have that spot, right?)
8. Repeat steps 2-3.
…and so on until she’s pulled everything out of all kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, the dishwasher, her toy box, the bottom drawers to our dresser in our bedroom, and the bottom two drawers to her dresser.
After this, she is usually exhausted from all the shenanigans and goes down for a nap. This is when I put everything back.
All that said, I’ve discovered that tissue boxes provide a bit of a reprieve from the usual mess. She loves pulling the tissues out and there are enough in the box that it takes quite a while before she gets through the whole box… and he mess is somewhat contained.
I’ve been toying with the idea of making just taking a whole lot of fabric squares and stuffing them in the box, instead. Has anyone tried that with some success?
